Business Need / Justification This position is required to support the maintenance and uptime of wheelchair-accessible vans equipped with ramps and lift systems used for EMS and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) operations. Increased fleet utilization, ADA compliance requirements, and lift-related mechanical failures necessitate a dedicated, experienced mechanic to reduce vehicle downtime, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain patient safety.
Position Summary The ASE-Certified Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of wheelchair-accessible vans, including hydraulic and electric lift systems, ramps, securement devices, and standard automotive systems. The role ensures compliance with DOT, ADA, OEM, and internal safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on wheelchair-accessible vans
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Inspect, troubleshoot, and service wheelchair lifts, ramps, interlocks, and securement systems
Ensure vehicles meet ADA, DOT, and state inspection requirements
Respond to lift failures and road calls as operationally required
Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair documentation
Coordinate with operations to prioritize fleet readinessMaintain a safe and compliant maintenance facility
Minimum Qualifications
ASE Certification (A-Series required)
Minimum 3 years automotive or fleet mechanic experience
Experience servicing wheelchair lifts and ramps
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and meet physical job demands
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with EMS, NEMT, paratransit, or ambulette fleets
OEM lift certifications (BraunAbility, Ricon, VMI, etc.)
CDL Class B or ability to obtain
Diesel engine experience
Welding or fabrication skills
Work Schedule
Full-time, day shift
Rotating on-call or after-hours support as needed
Compensation Range
Hourly Rate: $28.00 – $33.00 per hour
Overtime eligible per company policy
