The Role This position is for recent or upcoming 2026 High School Graduates. A $500 sign‑on bonus is offered to Trade Trainee hires, plus a $500 relocation bonus for new hires living 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA. The role offers competitive pay, weekly paychecks, paid time off, paid holidays, medical benefits including an on-site health center, a 401(k) company match, employee discounts, and more. The sign‑on bonus is for external new hires; current employees are ineligible.
The Deck Electrical trade requires no prior experience; job seekers willing to complete two weeks of unpaid training or those with a certificate are eligible. The training is a 2‑week (80‑hour) course offered at Virginia Peninsula Community College (Hampton, VA) from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Candidates with a certificate or diploma in electrical or a directly related field may be eligible to waive the training.
Deck electricians play a vital role in installing, repairing, overhauling, and testing electrical systems on aircraft carriers and submarines. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting complex schematics, installing lighting and receptacles, wire‑way rack installation, electronic control installation, preventive maintenance, equipment rebuilding, and welding of studs. Work often requires performing tasks in extreme weather, at great heights on scaffolding or ladders, in confined spaces such as tanks, compartments, or voids, and in outdoor environments throughout the year.
Must Have
Completion of the 2‑week (80‑hour) training program or proof of certificates/diploma in electrical or a directly related field
Willingness to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
Ability to pass a physical agility test
Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily
Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
Ability to perform overhead work
Availability for overtime as needed
Clean‑shaven for respirator use
Ability to work outdoors, year‑round, in all weather conditions
Ability to work at extreme heights
Ability to work in small, tight, confined spaces
Willingness to work any shift
Nice to Have
High school graduation or equivalent preferred
