Refrigeration Engineer
to join this growing team.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and evaluate refrigeration system layouts including equipment sizing, compressor selections, evaporators, condensers, controls, and heat transfer components
Support equipment application engineering for ammonia, CO₂, and large-capacity HFC systems
Assist in system calculations including load analysis, capacity, suction/discharge conditions, and performance modeling
Interpret customer specifications, cold storage requirements, processing layouts, climate conditions, and utility constraints
Prepare application packages including selection documents, performance data, drawings, controls narratives, and technical submittals
Collaborate with design, project management, and field construction to ensure systems meet performance, budget, and code expectations
Troubleshoot design challenges and recommend application adjustments during construction and commissioning
Work with controls teams to define setpoints, alarm strategies, sequencing, and energy-efficiency approaches
Provide engineering support to service teams addressing start-up, commissioning, system optimization, and post-installation performance
Review vendor equipment selections and ensure alignment with system needs, refrigerant type, capacity, and safety requirements
Ensure design compliance with industry and regulatory codes (ASHRAE, IIAR, OSHA, EPA, NEC, DOE, UL, etc.)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related discipline
3+ years of experience in industrial or commercial refrigeration systems
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, refrigerant properties, and system performance curves
Experience with CO₂, ammonia, and large-scale DX or secondary coolant systems preferred
Ability to interpret P&IDs, piping layouts, flow schematics, and controls documentation
Familiarity with compressor systems, VFDs, evaporators, condensers, valves, and pumping systems
Knowledge of defrost strategies, sequencing, and low-temperature design environments
Technical Skills
Refrigeration load calculation and sizing software
AutoCAD or Revit for system layout review
Familiarity with PLC/BMS/controls integration and operating logic
MS Office and ERP experience
Understanding of ventilation, machine room safety, and pressure vessel requirements
Working knowledge of IIAR safety standards, ASHRAE guidelines, and facility code compliance
Additional Skills
Ability to communicate complex technical details to both engineers and field teams
Strong analytical mindset with practical mechanical judgment
Comfortable supporting multiple active projects and shifting priorities
Solutions-oriented approach with strong initiative and follow-through
Ability to work cross-functionally with estimating, service, field installation, and owners/operators
