At Houston Methodist, the Senior (Sr.) Accounting and Reporting Analyst position is responsible for identifying and compiling information to effectively report costs and seek maximum reimbursement from various government programs. The Sr. Accounting and Reporting Analyst utilizes strong data analytic skills to identify issues and research solutions to complex issues such as government program rules, ensuring compliance with regulations. The role prepares federal and state tax returns and ensures timely payment of taxes due. The analyst interfaces across the organization with various system departments as well as government and business partner auditors, reports financial information for various state and census surveys, assists in annual operating budgets and maintains monthly budget information, and is responsible for monthly closing duties which include journal entry preparation and account analysis. The analyst manages projects independently, mentors junior team members, and supports training and onboarding of new staff.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
Experience
Three years experience in accounting or finance
Licenses and Certifications
CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State Licensure

Represents Houston Methodist to external government agencies and responds appropriately to requests for information.
Service Essential Functions
Prepares and submits the annual Medicare cost report for each HM hospital and assists in cost report amendments, audit, appeals and reopening process.
Independently prepares federal and state tax returns and ensures that all taxes are paid timely.
Extracts correct and accurate financial data from appropriate sources to report and or seek reimbursement from various government agencies.
Assists management in preparing the annual budget and maintains budget requests throughout the year.
Prepares month‑end net revenue and accounts receivable valuation accurately and timely.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Researches and keeps up‑to‑date with government regulations such as CMS, IRS, FEMA, etc. and ensures that reports and tax returns comply.
Confirms accuracy of data elements in reports and budget system and works to resolve inaccuracies.
Serves as subject‑matter expert for assigned fields/subjects; proactively learns new concepts, rules, and regulations and independently manages projects as assigned.

Utilizes strong analytical skills and the ability to assess big data to identify trends, variances, issues, and opportunities for improvement; makes recommendations to management.
