QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
EXPERIENCE
Three years experience in accounting or finance
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required:
CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State Licensure

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interfaces across the organization at all levels and with external governmental agencies and auditors effectively. Effectively and proactively communicates with all stakeholders to research and resolve issues and discrepancies in a timely manner.
Actively engages in developing a positive team environment. Serves as a mentor to more junior team members. Supports training and onboarding of new staff as needed.
Represents Houston Methodist (HM) to external government agencies and responds appropriately to requests for information.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepares and submits the annual Medicare cost report for each HM hospital and assists in cost report amendments, audit, appeals and reopening process.
Independently prepares federal and state tax returns and ensures that all taxes are paid timely.
Extracts correct and accurate financial data from appropriate sources to report and/or seek reimbursement from various government agencies.
Assists management in preparing the annual budget and maintains budget requests throughout the year.
Prepares month end net revenue (NR) and accounts receivable (A/R) valuation accurately and timely.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Researches and keeps up-to-date with government regulations (i.e. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), etc.) and ensures that reports and tax returns are in compliance.
Confirms accuracy of data elements in reports and budget system and works to resolve inaccuracies.
Serves as subject matter expert for assigned fields/subjects. Proactively learns new concepts/rules/regulations and independently manages projects as assigned.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Utilizes strong analytical skills and the ability to assess big data to identify trends, variances, issues, and opportunities for improvement. Makes recommendations to management.
Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently, Prioritizes tasks for multiple assignments and deadlines.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Seeks out opportunities to grow knowledge of Medicare reimbursement, tax regulations, State 1115 waivers, FEMA, and the budget system. Shares knowledge and leanings with team. Identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations to management.
