Summary/Objectives The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for working in conjunction with Managed IT staff to manage and maintain customer networks. They will work with the Project Manager to ensure project tasks are completed as assigned, partner with Technical Account Managers to ensure customer needs are addressed (both current and future), act as a point of escalation for both the engineering team as well as service tickets, and help research and implement new solutions to add to RJ Young’s technology stack. Additionally, a Senior Systems Engineer will perform as a contributing member of the Engineering Team to ensure customer networks are secure and functioning at target performance standards and reliability.

Provides technical support to customers and internal staff via phone, email, and remote support based on assigned trouble tickets and project tickets

Creates, Updates, and Maintains excellent documentation and notes within the PSA tool and other appropriate systems to ensure efficient access to time critical information and changes

Works with Engineers, Technical Account Managers, and Management with proactive suggestions to changing technology or updates

Assists with training internal staff through documentation of new technologies and policies.

Partners with customers to help ensure they environments have strong security postures and have a roadmap for future considerations.

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and other various technologies.

Physical Demands

Must be able to life 25 - 50 pounds.

Must be able to move lightweight equipment (Servers, PCs, mounts).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time: M-F; 40 hrs/week

The nature of the type of work may require some nights and weekend work depending on the customer downtime requirements

Travel This position is based in office, but some travel may be required

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree and/or 7+ years of related experience

Proven experience in planning, deploying and supporting all the following:

Server applications, operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.) and virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V, etc.)

Network protocols and IP scheme design

Infrastructure devices and appliances: Firewalls, Routers, switches, and security

Preferred Education And Experience

CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, Security+ etc. desired

Cisco, HPE, Sophos, Fortinet, Dell, Synology, StorageCraft, and other industry manufacturer certs desired

MS 365 experience a plus

ConnectWise experience a plus
