Vendor Liaison Specialist (Procurement) 3/4 Los Alamos National Laboratory

What You Will Do This position will be filled at either the Vendor Liaison Specialist 3 or Vendor Liaison Specialist 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities are assigned if hired at the higher level.

Vendor Liaison Specialist 3 ( $94,500 - $154,600 )

Provide technical and administrative procurement support for complex contractual packages supporting Laboratory programs.

Work closely with technical staff to develop procurement documentation, including statements of work, sole source justifications, Buy American justifications, and technical evaluations.

Support the requester side of the procurement process, ensuring compliance with Department of Energy and Laboratory requirements.

Serve as a key liaison between technical requesters, subcontractors, Acquisition Services Management, and Program Offices.

Vendor Liaison Specialist 4 ( $114,700 - $191,200 )

All responsibilities of the Vendor Liaison Specialist 3 level.

Provide senior-level oversight of complex contracts and procurement programs.

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in procurement and quality requirements.

Advise management on contract problem resolution and lead procurement strategy for high‑risk or high‑visibility efforts.

Mentor assigned staff and act as the primary point of contact for audits, reviews, and assessments.

Ensure contract performance aligns with cost, schedule, safety, security, quality, and environmental requirements.

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements

Procurement Expertise : Experience managing complex procurement actions, including bid planning, solicitation development, proposal evaluations, negotiations, and purchase request development. Ability to interpret technical specifications and support high‑volume purchasing activities in regulated or nuclear environments. Experience applying quality standards such as NQA‑1 and utilizing enterprise procurement, supply chain, and material tracking systems.

Customer Service : Ability to serve as a primary liaison between technical requesters, subcontractors, engineers, and business organizations to ensure timely and accurate procurement execution. Experience delivering high‑quality customer service in fast‑paced, shifting‑priority environments.

Communication Skills : Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, present information, provide recommendations, and brief technical staff and management. Ability to communicate effectively across organizational levels, including executive leadership.

Organizational Skills : Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately. Experience maintaining procurement documentation and contributing to process improvement initiatives.

Additional Requirements for Vendor Liaison Specialist 4

Experience serving as a Subject Matter Expert in procurement and contract compliance.

Experience mentoring, training, or providing technical oversight to other procurement staff.

Experience advising management on contract strategy, risk, and problem resolution.

Experience acting as a primary point of contact for audits, assessments, or reviews.

Education/Experience

Vendor Liaison Specialist 3 : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.

Vendor Liaison Specialist 4 : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.

Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting weapons‑related or production agency procurements.

Experience purchasing materials in nuclear or highly regulated environments.

Familiarity with DOE regulations, LANL procurement systems, and PA‑MAP‑01011.

Experience managing high‑volume procurements for multiple customers.

Active DOE Q clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Work Location The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at management’s discretion.

Position Commitment Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs. The position commitment for this role is 1 year.

Work Schedule 9/80 or 5/40 work schedule.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 – Employment requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating suitability under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (applicable only to U.S. citizens).

Clearance – Q clearance required. Background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government. U.S. citizenship required except in rare circumstances.
