Job Overview

Ames Community School District is seeking Elementary General Education Associates for the 2025-2026 school year. This role supports classroom teachers, assists students, and maintains educational resources. Schedule

Approximately 20-25 hours a week, Monday to Friday, on the 172‑day school calendar. Responsibilities

Assists students in interpreting and following teacher directions. Assists students with classroom assignments during independent work time and/or workstations. Works with individual students or groups to reinforce learning of material or skills prepared by the teacher. Assist classroom teachers with collection and preparation of materials needed for lessons. Assist the teacher with student record keeping and daily documentation. Supervise and enforce building/individual discipline procedures in all educational settings, both in and out of school according to the supervisor’s directions. Assist with medical, health, and behavior related needs of students as instructed by the administrator, teacher, or nurse. Administer medication and first aid if identified. Assist in all aspects of personal hygiene. Correct assignments, perform data collection and entry, maintain records, copying, and clerical duties as assigned. Participate in professional development as requested by administration. Alert principal or teacher to any problem and special information about an individual student. Interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, staff, and administration. Maintain high ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information as expected of licensed teachers. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Basic understanding of children’s needs. Effective communication and relational skills with students of all ages. Patience, compassion, and a caring attitude toward children. Basic computer skills: word processing with Google Docs or similar, internet searching, and email skills. Strong oral and written communication skills, including active listening. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, sitting on the floor, and running short distances. Emotional maturity and stability suitable for specialized work. Initiative and problem‑solving skills. Ability to take directions, work independently with minimal supervision, and follow policies and practices. Pay
