Pay Pay is based on numerous factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS Job Summary A Senior Canine Trainer is responsible for K9 training associated with support of OCONUS and CONUS K9 projects. As part of the Garda World Federal Services (GWFS) K9 Training department, a Canine Trainer reports to the Canine Training Manager to accomplish the following 1) Conduct K9 training to GWFS program standards; 2) Conduct green dog training to GWFS K9 program standards; 3) Conduct team training to GWFS K9 program standards; 4) Document all training per GWFS K9 program requirements; 5) Complete all tasks as directed by the Director of Canine Operations.

Duties/Responsibilities

Understand Principles of Conditioning (Classical and Operant) and how they apply to K9 training

Show understanding and ability to replicate DOS DSCTOC standards

Training “green dogs” to GWFS K9 standards (Both single and dual-purpose dogs)

Train K9 teams to GWFS standards (Both single and dual-purpose dogs)

Familiar with food and toy reward training methodology

Maintain and edit, training records as directed the Director of Canine Operations

Oversee short term and long term K9 projects as directed by Director of Canine Operations

Respond to inquiries from HTP, DOS DSCTOC, COR or other Clients as directed by the Director of Canine Operations

Deployment for periods up to 120 days to Project (OCONUS) when required

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the customer/client

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant working K9 experience, preferably in the military, law enforcement or defense contracting related

A minimum of 2-years relevant experience in K9 training to include dog selection, testing and imprinting

Understanding of Explosives Detection K9 operations, training, certifications, and validations

Understanding of Patrol Dogs (tracking, aggression control, obedience, decoy training, directional targeting, tactical deployments, and mechanical and electronic behavior shaping)

Understanding of overseas project/program K9 training

Understanding of the National Odor Recognition Testing (NORT) validation standard

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and in conjunction with various departments, Project administration, consultants, and the Client

Willingness to work outside normal business hours to communicate with OCONUS staff, as well as key periods of additional immediate workload deadlines

Comprehensive research, analysis, and business writing skills

Working knowledge in the following:

Microsoft PowerPoint – Slide building creation

Microsoft Outlook – ability to manage Shared Calendars and schedules

Excel to include formulas, pivot tables and macros

Share Point – Storage of files, building site as well as managing takers and calendar

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

Self-motivated ability to perform well in a high pace, fast changing work environment

Ability to identify risk situations and coordinate solutions with management

Strong organization skills.

Ability to work well with others under deadline situations

Flexibility and maturity are a must

Ability to work remotely while on a travel status without physical management or supervision

Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The employee will work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment

During visits to areas of training and operations , may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise

Physical Requirements The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time

The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

The employee must be able to wear and train in a bite suit
