Location: South Central Virginia. The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders, providing private, community-based educational services.

Responsibilities

Planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents ages 10‑22.

Ensuring nursing services are provided in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Treatment.

Monitoring, reporting, and documenting the residents’ behavior and physiological status.

Administering medications and performing treatments/procedures.

Guiding the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician.

Reporting accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents.

Qualifications

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Virginia (or eligible to receive or renew).

Current CPR or BLS certification preferred (can renew as part of New Employee Orientation).

Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.

Ability to successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training.

Ability to use and supervise Handle With Care (HWC) techniques.

Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Effectively communicate both verbally and via written documentation.
