The Hughes Center
is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Hughes Center also provides private, community-based educational services. We provide individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. We utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to deliver comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment (and educational) interventions to increase each youth’s functional independence. Our team manages medical conditions and challenging behaviors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, and encourages residents to apply skills in new environments, maintaining functional use when they return to home or community settings.

Responsibilities
Plan, direct, implement, and evaluate all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents ages 10–22
Ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Treatment
Monitor, report, and document residents’ behavior and physiological status
Administer medications and perform treatments/procedures
Guide response to residents who may be behaviorally out of control or experience a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician
Report accurately and concisely on incoming shifts regarding residents’ conditions
Qualifications
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Virginia (or eligible to receive or renew license)
Current CPR or BLS certification preferred (can renew during new employee orientation)
Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire
Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training
Use and supervise Handle With Care (HWC) techniques
Demonstrate behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and supportive of facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives
Effectively communicate verbally and in written documentation
