Assistant Barn Manager

Under general supervision of the STRIDES Barn Manager, provides support to the program and the barn manager. This involves teaching riding lessons, assisting with barn chores, running events such as birthday parties, petting zoo, and working with individuals with disabilities to enjoy the barn and services.

Tuesday‑Saturday 10 am‑6 pm

Essential Functions
Teach riding lessons for general public.
Responsible for leading birthday parties, petting zoo, and special events.
Assist in therapy riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities.
Assist in training individuals, program participants, volunteers, visitors, and new staff.
Responsible for the care of the horses and program equipment.
Completes progress reports and other necessary forms and documents.
Responsible for monthly feed orders and medication/supplements.
Responsible for setting up farrier appointments and submitting receipts.
Responsible for driving the tractor/manure spreader.
Assist with manual labor such as moving hay bales, filling grain bins, cleaning stalls, carrying water buckets, etc.
Identify animal illnesses and injuries and respond accordingly.
Share responsibility for caring for sick horses.
Assist with training rides and groundwork for horses.
Help cover shifts for call‑offs as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by Barn Manager.
Skills and Abilities
Administer IV and IM shots and perform equine first aid.
Identify illness and injuries and treat accordingly.
Physical Demands
Balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, pushing wheelchairs, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
