Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who will support the success of the class and students by providing students with additional academic support in a professional manner. The TA assists students in understanding content by using various teaching/tutoring strategies. A teaching Assistant must be available to provide extra assistance to individual students as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in grading homework, quizzes, and exams of the online section of the course.
Monitor online discussion boards, perform online course communication with students, and assist during synchronous discussions.
Prepare the course Blackboard site before the start of the course.
Include assignment descriptions and deadlines, grade book calculations, group and class discussion forums, student resources, practice exams, and mid‑term course evaluations in the Blackboard site.
Outline a teaching module for future online teaching assistants, including documents for preparing new teaching assistants, troubleshooting tips, and information on fostering a productive working relationship with a professor.
Perform other related duties as requested.
Prepare and deliver one class lecture in consultation with the instructor.
Assist with clinical supervision sessions, including observing, providing oral and written feedback, and supporting small‑group learning activities.
Facilitate discussions or in‑class activities as needed.
Assist with special projects, course evaluation preparation, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Be on‑call one weekend per month to respond to lab equipment alerts.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
