About the Role We’re looking for a dedicated Outpatient Bariatric Dietician to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, the Outpatient Bariatric Dietician is responsible for providing supportive Nutrition Counseling services as part of a comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Program. Acts as member of multidisciplinary program team, evaluating patient progress over time and ensuring that patients are educated and supported in making lifelong lifestyle changes while remaining well‑nourished.
What You’ll Do
Conduct thorough nutrition assessments of patients in the Bariatric Surgery Program, identifying potential nutrition issues, and providing education regarding pre‑op and post‑op diet regimens and expectations.
Review assessment findings and plans with the Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center and team members.
Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and patient outcomes, revising as appropriate to meet each patient’s unique needs.
Document individualized plans of care and communicate with the Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center or designee to coordinate patient care.
Provide patient education related to weight loss and bariatric surgery procedures in individual and group settings.
Seek educational opportunities and utilize resources to stay current in bariatric nutrition practice.
Participate in community health education programs and exhibits related to the Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Center to increase community awareness.
What You Bring
Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics or Foods & Nutrition.
Advanced degree in related field (Nutrition, Public Health, Business Administration) preferred.
At least three years’ experience in an outpatient nutrition setting working with individuals and groups.
Previous experience working with bariatric surgery patients strongly preferred.
Registration with The Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD) required.
Certification as a Dietitian‑Nutritionist (CDN) with New York State Department of Education required.
Membership in The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and Weight Management Practice Group strongly preferred.
Certificate of Completion in Adult Weight Management Training Program through AND or other advanced training in weight management strongly recommended.
