An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing high-quality care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I represents the nurse who is a novice or advanced beginner progressing to competent. The advanced beginner may have enough experience to begin to formulate principles. Essential Responsibilities

Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards. Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data, observes patient conditions, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care safely and competently. Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff. Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares the care plan during care and at discharge. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, openness to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure to develop nursing proficiency. Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal performance goals aligned with enterprise-wide metrics. Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s goals. Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications by Level

RN I Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 0-3 years in patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN license (OK or eNLC). BLS required on hire. RN II Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 3-5 years in patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN license (OK or eNLC). BLS required on hire. RN III Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master’s preferred. Experience: 5+ years in patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN license (OK or eNLC). BLS required on hire. Specialty certifications preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with staff. Ability to respond to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Skilled in computer applications to ensure quality and safety measures for patients. Ability to advocate for patients and maintain integrity and trust. Ability to manage conflicts constructively. Ability to maintain regulatory compliance and accreditation. Ability to foster an inclusive workplace valuing diversity. Strong written and oral communication skills with candor and diplomacy.
