Summary of Job Duties Supervised by Milk Lab Manager, the Milk Lab Technician handles all tasks for preparing infant feedings in the NICU Milk Lab, following HMBANA guidelines and maintaining an aseptic environment.

Operations

Responsible for all essential tasks related to handling and preparing infant feedings processed through the NICU Milk Lab.

Maintain the aseptic environment to ensure safe handling (collection, storage, preparation) of expressed breast milk, pasteurized donor human milk, and formula.

Prepare infant feedings of human milk and formula daily, according to recipes from physician orders with Milk Lab Manager/Assistant Manager/Dietitian.

Participate in training new Milk Lab staff members.

Follow policies of the UAMS NICU Milk Lab in accordance with HMBANA Guidelines and perform duties to ensure safe operation.

Maintenance and Inventory

Ensure equipment is in working order and adequate supplies are available for daily tasks.

Clean all areas, storage and distribution zones, maintain operational inventory.

Compliance

Prepare human milk and fortified formula infant feedings per Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics & HMBANA guidelines, and UAMS policies.

Maintain records regarding cleaning, equipment maintenance, inventory, and distribution.

Ancillary Support

Prepare and distribute copies of the daily MOM Log to the Lactation Department and NICU Dietitians.

Ensure correct labeling of refrigerator bins, freezer drawers, storage containers, and maintain the current patient label binder organized by room/bed assignment daily.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

High School Diploma

1 year of experience in healthcare of food service.

Preferred

Formula/Human Milk Technician Certificate

2 years of Hospital or Healthcare-related or 3 years Food Service.
