Advanced Practice Provider – Traveler
Location: El Paso, Texas

Pay: $64.88/hr + Weekly per diem and housing
Description of Duties Nurse practitioners and physician assistants form the core of the provider team. Although there are differences in the professions, both work together under the same core clinical care expectations. The mission in the detention environment requires a broad clinical background. The core scope of practice includes family practice (including family units and office procedures), urgent and emergency care, behavioral health care, infectious disease and public health management, case management, and gender‑specific care, including transgender care and pregnancy. All care is governed by predetermined policy and established detention standards. APPs provide health care under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and with prescriptive authority.
Required Education and Experience – All Facilities
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program in a U.S. state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory. Must be accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA) or a predecessor, and the institution or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Nurse Practitioner: Graduate from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program in a U.S. state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory. Must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
One year full‑time equivalent of primary care experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, current and within the past five years.
Experience in a detention, correctional or residential healthcare setting (preferred, not required).
For Family Residential Centers: One year full‑time equivalent of primary care experience with proficiency providing care to women and pediatric patients of all ages, current and within the past five years.
Required Licensure and Certification
Maintain an unrestricted, current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in the state of assignment; report any changes immediately.
Maintain national certification as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
Physician Assistant: certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Nurse Practitioner: board certification as Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (AANC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Maintain unrestricted license to prescribe controlled medications from the DEA in the state of assignment.
Maintain one of: Basic Life Support for health care providers (American Heart Association®), CPR for the professional rescuer (American Red Cross or American Safety and Health Institute).
Credentialing and a signed collaborative practice and prescriptive authority agreement with a physician.

Utilize and document interpreter/translation or other assisted communication services for patients with limited English proficiency, disability or impediment.
Verbal and written proficiency in English.
Navigate an electronic work environment, electronic health records, web‑based training, and electronic communications.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) with moderate proficiency.
Document detainee health care in the required electronic health record in the required format, timely and in compliance with policy.
Knowledge of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations regarding patient records and Personally Identifiable Information.
Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish (preferred, not required).
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to the Advanced Practice Provider Collaborative Practice and Prescriptive Authority Agreement.
Work as part of an integrated health care team to provide acute, emergent, and chronic care to patients in compliance with policy and accreditation standards.
Perform comprehensive history and physical evaluations, behavioral health care, and minor outpatient surgical procedures for detainees as required.
Apply clinical knowledge within documented treatment plans, prescriptions, lab/diagnostic ordering, medication prescribing, referrals, and follow‑up.
Participate in court‑ordered treatment plans, including evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric illness or life‑threatening conditions such as hunger strikes.
Provide age and gender‑specific health care, including treatment of gender dysphoria and pregnancy.
Consult with the staff physician, clinical director, and/or consultants as required by policy.
Provide infirmary care including admission, discharge, and daily rounds for higher‑level care patients.
Interpret Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and diagnostic studies; manage Direct Observation Therapy for tuberculosis.
Implement infection control actions in accordance with policy and guidance.
Adhere to universal precautions and properly dispose of sharps and infectious waste.
Provide patient health education verbally and/or with handouts.
Assist with accreditation preparation and ongoing compliance.
Attend on‑site, regional and national meetings as required.
Complete all required training (initial, annual, ad hoc).
Participate in credentialing and peer review processes.
Mentor APP onboarding and training.
Maintain productivity on par with average APP productivity at the facility.
Duty Hours / On‑Call Requirements
The facility operates 24/7/365; response required during emergency activation.
Position requires rotational on‑call duties and may necessitate return to the facility to provide care.
Position requires availability for day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
Physical Demands Work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking or jogging over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, touching, or lifting moderately heavy patients or equipment.
Citizenship Requirements and Verification Employees must be United States citizens or foreign citizens legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification will be performed via the E‑Verify system in accordance with FAR 52.222‑54.
