DOC Part-Time Mental Health Counselor SW/C II (Remote) Join to apply for the DOC Part-Time Mental Health Counselor SW/C II (Remote) role at State of Colorado.

This position will provide after‑hours mental health crisis services to inmates through a state‑wide tele‑health system, provide consultation and guidance to correctional staff and administrators about mental health needs and issues including developmental disabilities, mental illness, and other special needs populations as identified.

Responsibilities

Provide delivery of tele‑health, after‑hour mental health services at an advanced practice level to a special population of inmates with mental illness.

Work with other staff regarding the mental health needs of inmates after normal business hours.

Ensure accurate information system mental health needs levels, including psychiatric and developmental disability needs level codes.

Assure both emergency and non‑emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health needs.

Provide clinical direction to non‑clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates.

Assure continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies.

Document electronically in an accurate and timely manner to provide comprehensive inmate mental health records.

Monitor inmate treatment and listen to inmate concerns and provide counseling and direction.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy.

Current, valid permit or license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Psychologist).

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health field from an accredited program (e.g., CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT/COAMFTE, APA).

License eligible for Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist.

Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment.

Required Competencies

Professional mental health or sex inmate treatment skills.

Efficient work style and ability to participate in a 24‑hour mental health on‑call rotation.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Ability to provide comprehensive clinical documentation.

Maintain required registration, permit, or licensure.

Ability to work with a diverse population of inmates.

Fluency in English, both verbal and written.

Ability to create accessible documents that follow plain‑language guidelines.

Conditions of Employment

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Possess a valid Colorado driver's license.

Possess a high‑school diploma or GED.

Have no felony convictions.

Be legally eligible to work in the United States; the agency uses e‑Verify.

Successfully complete the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including defensive tactics modules.

Maintain the required registration/permit/licensure as applicable.
