Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist II Location: Houston Methodist West Hospital, Houston, TX.

Schedule: 07:00-17:30. Call Required (Nights + Weekends). Call time: 50 minutes. Shift coverage 4 days / 10 days per schedule.

The Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist II is an experienced, fully competent technologist with specialized training and knowledge of cardiovascular procedures directly related to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Responsibilities include assisting physicians with highly specialized and complex interventional and therapeutic radiologic procedures such as peripheral and coronary angioplasty, stents, rotablators, atherectomy, laser, coronary ultrasound, electrophysiology procedures including ablations and device implantation. The role is part of the direct patient care team, actively participating and scrubbing into cath lab cases to assist with equipment movement and alignment and to control radiation throughout procedures. Mentor Cath Lab Rad Tech I's, Cath Lab RNs, and students. Work independently exercising sound judgment and executing above-average clinical skills. Deliver exceptional patient care and adhere to radiation standards and guidelines to ensure patient safety and customer service. The position requires availability to be on call.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.

Experience:

At least 3 years experience as a Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist; may consider HM Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist with at least two years Cath Lab experience of which at least one has been with HM.

Licenses and Certifications:

ARRT-R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

CMRT (Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist) – State Licensure – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

BLS (Basic Life Support) or Instructor (AHA)

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or Instructor (AHA)

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills and competency assessments.

Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.

Exhibits strong interpersonal and team‑player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co‑workers.

Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, including organizing workflow and actively participating in problem‑solving.

Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English for tasks impacting patient or employee safety or security.

Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a manner consistent with a customer‑service focus.

Essential Functions:

Promotes a positive work environment and collaborates with the patient‑care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient‑care information and data in a comprehensive manner.

Performs interventional and therapeutic radiologic procedures, including peripheral and coronary angioplasty, stents, rotablators, atherectomy, laser, coronary ultrasound, electrophysiology procedures (ablations, device implantation), fluoroscopy, and cine modalities.

Assists with movement and alignment of equipment and controls radiation throughout procedures.

Provides care for the physical needs of patients, executing positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors; modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications or limitations associated with procedures, proactively addressing them for optimum outcomes.

Follows radiation safety standards, uses patient radiation protection and immobilization, maintains sterile techniques, practices aseptic techniques, and complies with infection‑control procedures.

Ensures imaging equipment has had quality control performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use; reports malfunctions, performs preventive maintenance, and calls for service if needed.

Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures; enters charges at the time service is delivered.

Participates in departmental projects and shared governance activities.
