Position Summary The Business Development Manager, Digital and Creative Works is a key member of NYU Langone Health’s Technology Opportunities & Ventures (TOV) unit, overseeing the protection, management, and commercialization of the institution’s intellectual property. This position focuses on commercializing non‑patentable intellectual property, including creative, digital, and brand‑related assets, and occasionally involves patents as part of a larger portfolio. The responsibility includes disclosure, protection, marketing, negotiation, and compliance of these assets.

Job Responsibilities

Engage with researchers to understand their work, inform them about intellectual property considerations, and encourage invention disclosures.

Collaborate and communicate with all NYULH employees, ensuring accurate, clear, and confidential communication to respond appropriately to inquiries.

Conduct outreach to venture capital firms, investor groups, and entrepreneurs, staying aware of investment trends.

Monitor signed agreements with companies, staying informed of changes in focus, personnel, or resources, and maintaining long‑term relationships to ensure compliance.

Negotiate license, research, and supporting agreements in consultation with relevant parties.

Draft and finalize agreements from approved templates, ensuring alignment with university policies and attractive returns.

Research and assess companies’ active research and development interests and attend conferences to network with technology licensing professionals.

Identify potential commercial partners and negotiate confidentiality agreements, licensing strategies, and business models.

Maintain and manage the digital and creative works non‑exclusive license portfolio in Elucid, tracking disclosures, agreements, amendments, and compliance milestones.

Prepare non‑confidential marketing summaries of innovations for industry distribution and website posting.

Assist in prosecuting intellectual property applications, including patent, copyright, or trademark registrations as appropriate.

Evaluate innovation disclosures for commercial potential in collaboration with the Director of Intellectual Property and outside counsel.

Handle ad‑hoc requests as assigned.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities

Support faculty and staff in the disclosure and protection of creative, digital, and non‑patent intellectual property, coordinating copyright and trademark protection activities.

Assist in brand and trademark stewardship, coordinating filings, guiding appropriate brand use, and supporting commercialization opportunities.

Monitor license terms for creative and digital works, ensuring accurate reporting and identifying needed amendments or new agreements.

Provide guidance to creators on copyright, trademark, ownership, and distribution considerations, offering education on institutional policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum three years of experience in business development, developing and marketing of creative or digital works, software or new technologies, and negotiating research and license agreements, or related activities.

Excellent administrative, negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with senior management, academics, and industry executives, achieving consensus and promoting long‑term relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D., MBA, JD or LLM.

Experience with intellectual property, licensing, and commercialization.

Experience with copyright, trademark, or digital content licensing.

Previous experience in higher education or hospital environments.

Salary range: $97,589.95 - $114,991.01 Annually.
