March Testing Information
St. Charles County Police Department will be conducting Police Recruit Testing to fill current and future vacancies. This is a full‑time position with a full range of benefits, including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance programs. This is an eight‑hour position – Starting at $50,044.28 per year.
POLICE RECRUIT PROGRAM DETAILS
Selected applicants will be offered employment with the St. Charles County Police Department, earning pay and benefits while attending the academy.
Academy fees will be covered by the St. Charles County Police Department.
Upon successful completion/graduation of the Police Academy, successful completion of the State of Missouri Peace Officer Standards & Training certification examination, successful completion of the Police Officer PT test, and satisfactory results from a promotion drug screen, Police Recruits will transition to a certified Police Officer position.
Police Recruit applicants will be required to continue employment with St. Charles County in an eligible position for 36 continuous months following graduation from a police academy and onboarding to a Police Officer position.
JOB DESCRIPTION The purpose of this position is to attend the police academy and complete the required training program so that the employee may sit for the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) examination and receive their POST license. The employee will be assigned clerical duties at the police department upon hire, prior to academy attendance. The work is performed under the supervision of the Sergeant.
Attends the police academy and participates in structured police recruit instruction.
Assists law enforcement personnel and the public in retrieving and duplicating official police reports.
Accesses information via computer systems.
Assists in maintaining files in various bureaus throughout the police department.
Operates diverse office equipment.
Assists in the transportation, maintenance, and storage of police property.
Answers telephones, routes calls and takes messages from the public.
Provides assistance to Bureau Commanders in the daily functioning of their respective Bureaus.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS Education
Associate’s degree preferred in Criminal Justice or related field.
Certifications
Valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
Job Experience
Attendance/graduation from an accredited educational facility may replace job experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Police Recruits are required to pass oral, written, and physical examinations at the time of hire and will be required to do so during employment.
Police Recruits are required to have a background investigation performed.li
Police Recruits before hire and during employment cannot have a criminal history and are forbidden to commit criminal acts while employed.
Police Recruits must be 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the police academy.
Police Recruits accepted into the Police Academy Sponsorship Program shall be required to complete the Police Recruit Reimbursement Agreement, thereby committing to a minimum initial period of service to St. Charles County Police Department for a term of thirty‑six (36) months. The term shall commence upon the employee’s official hire date as a Police Officer.

Applicants must pass each component to move on to the next component. Scores from each component will be tabulated to determine the applicant’s final ratings, at which point candidates will be added to the Eligibility List accordingly.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
Candidates must meet all qualifications and pass all examination components to be added to the Eligibility List.
Each examination component is weighted on the Eligibility List as follows:
Oral Board Interview – 55 percent
Written Exam – 45 percent
Physical Agility Testing – Pass or fail
Eligibility lasts for one year (unless the list is cancelled, or examination procedures are revised).
Candidates placed on the Eligibility List, who are later found to have employment or character histories which are incompatible with the high standards expected of St. Charles County Police Officers, may be removed from the Eligibility List following notification to the candidate.
