Responsibilities An employee in this job class is responsible for performing clerical work of moderate difficulty in the maintenance of police reports. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a unit supervisor. Work involves the use of a desktop computer, video display terminal or comparable office equipment in maintaining police files and retrieving and dispensing police information. Work is reviewed while in process, and upon completion, by a supervisor for accuracy and conformance with instructions and established procedures.

Individuals in these positions are responsible for performing entry level work of moderate difficulty providing security, safety and protection for person and property. Work is performed under direct supervision of a high ranking officer. Work involves physical exertion including walking and standing, detaining individuals, preparing reports and extensive public contact.

An employee in this job class is responsible for performing work of marked difficulty processing emergency and non-emergency calls received via radio and telephone. Work is performed under general supervision of a supervisory staff that includes commissioned and professional staff personnel. Work involves the dispatching of police units for the St. Louis County Police Department, and its municipal contracted agencies, by radio in response to requests for service according to predetermined priorities, providing confidential criminal history data through a computer system, maintaining status and location of mobile units through multiple mapping systems, answering and routing telephone calls.

Training & Advancement Become a St. Louis County Police Officer! The six‑month basic training period is compensated at $19.31 an hour. Upon graduation, Probationary Police Officers enter the existing commissioned pay matrix. Start gaining experience now with our Pre‑Academy Paid Employment with Benefits Program. Department: St. Louis County Police Department

If you do not meet the qualifications to be a police officer for the St. Louis County Police Department, you may want to consider applying for an open enrollment recruit position at the County and Municipal Police Academy. This position will afford you the opportunity to be considered for employment by municipalities throughout the St. Louis region. Applicants who do not meet qualifications for employment as a St. Louis County Police Recruit may apply for an Open Enrollment position in an upcoming basic training class. Applications are reviewed by the Basic Training Supervisor at the discretion of the Academy Director to determine eligibility dependent on available positions.
