POSITION SUMMARY The Painter I is responsible for setting-up and operating a Color-Max Powder automated coating system, a Prodigy paint-on-demand manual powder system. Daily operations include operating a manual batch wash and powder system, cone, disk, or nozzle type painting equipment to spray powder coating onto manufactured workpieces at required quality standards while achieving maximum efficiency. This position is a member of the Paint Team in our Fabrication Department. The Painter I reports the Paint Lead.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Reads, interprets and applies paint specifications to fabricated parts.

Load and offload paint line using both manual and crane processes.

Turns valves and observes gauges to set pressure and to control flow of paint to each spray station.

Readjusts pressure valves to control direction and pattern of spray and to correct flaws in coating.

Adjusts thermostat to maintain specified temperature in wash tanks and oven.

Inspect painted units for runs sags, unpainted areas, and weld splatter.

Takes coating thickness readings and records data to comply with operational standards.

Follows directions and possesses the ability to work independently.

Communicates effectively to their immediate supervisor the status of needed parts or supplies to paint parts.

Provides paint touch up to finished units by either hard brush or air equipment.

Has a working knowledge of Workmanship Standards as well as the ISO quality system. Utilizes these practices in their everyday activity.

Utilize any specialized tooling that is required in their respective area. Complete any necessary certifications required to do so.

Works at different workstations as production needs require.

Monitors and records daily readings of the 5-stage wash system making the necessary chemical adjustments in order to keep the wash system functioning in accordance with state and local requirements meeting all specifications.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of six months’ experience working in an industrial environment

Ability to read and interpret all measuring devices needed for producing specified paint coatings.

Able to read blueprints and operate hand, air and power tools.

Able to operate a hand truck and dedicated conveyor crane.

Able to be trained and become efficient in the use of Shop Floor Manager (SFM) Labor Collection System.

Effective verbal communication skills.

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Relevant vocational or technical education.

Work conditions may include elevated noise levels, exceeding the normal dBA, requiring hearing protection and extreme temperatures, both high and low. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee may be required to wear eye protection, hearing protection, or a respirator depending on the nature of the work performed.

WORK SCHEDULE Normal working schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm, with some overtime and weekends required at times.
