YMCA of Greater Richmond
Overview
The Tuckahoe Family YMCA is seeking a safety-focused, full-time Professional Lifeguard to ensure the safety of members and program participants at our pool!
Duties
Relate to members in a professional and courteous manner; oversee the safety, cleanliness, and order of lap pools, family pools, and surrounding areas; and assist with the maintenance and upkeep of pool equipment.
Be trained in and knowledgeable about emergency procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Richmond, follow all procedures, record and report all accidents and incidents to Director.
Serve as a role model for part‑time aquatics staff and may assist with training other employees.
Position requires 35 hours of direct service guarding.
Qualifications
Candidates must be able to swim 300 yards, tread‑water for 2 minutes, and have a safety‑minded attitude.
Must be service focused, demonstrate a sense of self‑accountability, and be intrinsically driven to uphold aquatic safety standards; vigilant in maintaining safety of all members; a team player with a strong focus on the collective good of the YMCA.
Must possess and continuously practice lifesaving skills and knowledge, be able to act during emergency situations, and set the tone for a safe and positive aquatic experience.
Previous lifeguarding and aquatic experience preferred.
Strong communication skills and ability to implement YMCA of Greater Richmond safety standards and facility Emergency Action Plan.
Applicants must be flexible and able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must have current CPR‑Pro, AED, First Aid, and YMCA/Red Cross/Ellis lifeguard certifications; must hold O2 certification or obtain it within 30 days of hire.
The organization will train interested candidates who meet basic swim requirements if not already certified.
