Special Education Assistant

Working under the supervision of teachers, the Assistant is a vital part of the instructional program, providing instructional, clerical, supervisory and behavior‑management support. The role supports classroom teachers by implementing programming as directed by teachers, administrators or the Case Conference Committee. All responsibilities align with the Bylaws and Policies of Special Education, the assigned school and the school corporation. Essential Job Functions
Develop positive respectful relationships with students and staff. Work effectively in an inclusion environment with students and staff. Be punctual, professional in manner and speech, and notify co‑workers and building administration prior to absences. Collaborate and share information with the teacher of record. Assist students with organizational skills, staying on task and reviewing/re‑teaching skills. Assistance with daily classroom duties. Facilitate small group instruction. Complete clerical duties assigned by the teacher. Supervise student behavior and activities. Lift and move students. Assist with other duties as assigned. Equipment
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, and telephone. Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Pay Rate
$15.75 per hour. Work Schedule
Hours scheduled between 6.5 and 7.5 per day, finalized at hire, depending on student needs. 182 days per year. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to read and write. Willingness to help special needs children. Effective human relations skills, including a calm, patient personality. Physical and Mental Demands
