Position Overview This role is a
Food Service Floater
who steps into kitchen and warehouse positions as necessary to maintain operations during staff absences or vacancies. The floater prepares, cooks, portioning and packaging meals, receives, stores and distributes food and supplies, maintains storage areas and assists with inventory and sanitation procedures.
Location 4915 E. 52nd Ave, Commerce City, CO 80022
Pay $19.00–$20.00 per hour
Position Type Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM (designated holidays and special events)
Key Responsibilities
Perform food‑service and warehouse tasks to support kitchen and storage operations during staff absences or vacancies.
Produce high‑quality meals that meet standards for taste, appearance, and texture.
Portion food accurately based on the number of meals ordered.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following sanitation protocols in food preparation and storage.
Receive deliveries of food and supplies; verify quantity, packaging, and quality.
Store items in designated areas using pallet jacks or forklifts, following sanitation guidelines and FIFO inventory practices.
Prepare storage areas for monthly physical inventory and participate in the inventory process.
Prepare and pack cold food items according to approved recipes and menu specifications.
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and appropriately.
Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and restocking tasks to support kitchen flow.
Collaborate with delivery drivers and other program staff to ensure timely and accurate distribution of meals and supplies.
Communicate effectively with team members to support daily operations and respond to shifting needs.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure continuity of food‑service operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities Occasional kitchen volunteers (no full‑time supervisory role).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Frequent exposure to heat, cold, steam, fumes and walk‑in refrigeration/freezers.
Use of knives, utensils, and commercial cooking equipment throughout the shift.
Stand, pivot, and walk on a hard kitchen floor surface throughout the shift.
Lift, push, or pull up to 60 lb.
Occasional exposure to chemicals and cleaning solvents.
Competencies

Minimum Qualifications
High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, interpret invoices and shipping papers, follow standardized recipes, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Daily flexibility as assignments will vary.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of high‑volume institutional cooking or warehouse shipping/receiving experience.
ServSafe certified or ability to obtain certification within 4 months.
Forklift or pallet‑jack certified, or ability to obtain certification within 4 months.
Knowledge and Skills
Basic food preparation skills.
Knowledge of shipping and receiving practices.
Basic inventory and product rotation principles.
Clear and respectful communication with agency staff, clients, volunteers, and vendors.
