The Library Associate – Children’s Services is a non‑exempt, hourly position at the Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Library – North County Regional Library. The role emphasizes creating a welcoming and engaging environment for residents, especially children between ages 0‑11.
Hiring Range:
$20.00 – $25.00
Schedule:
Full time, 40 hours per week. Works Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, one evening per week 11:00 am–8:00 pm, and one weekend every three weeks. Benefit eligible.
Location:
North County Regional Library, 16500 Holly Crest Lane, Huntersville, NC 28078.
Position Summary The Library Associate delivers high‑quality library service, ensuring value‑added experiences for all patrons. The position requires professional and technical library work, supports system‑wide and branch goals, and promotes digital literacy.
Essential Functions
Provide service desk coverage to meet daily service demands.
Plan and deliver age‑appropriate children’s programs, story times, and special events.
Support early literacy activities and family engagement.
Maintain children’s collections, displays, and learning spaces.
Deliver excellent customer service in a high‑volume, public‑facing setting.
Contribute to outreach efforts and community engagement.
Promote and market library programs.
Integrate digital literacy tools into programming and learning experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Strong technology and computer skills to support the library’s commitment to exemplary service.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating and facilitating school‑aged STEAM programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Alpha‑numeric sorting systems, various library systems, telephone etiquette.
Skills:
Technology adeptness, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, excellent time‑management skills with attention to detail.
Abilities:
Adaptability, communication, collaboration, technical/professional knowledge and current trend awareness, work‑standards orientation.
Computer Skills Proficient in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
