Recreation Assistant

Location: 139 Winter St, Tilton, NH 03276
Base pay: $15.93 - $20.80 hourly
Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm and 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm shifts; every other weekend (+$2.00 hr); varying holidays.
Compensation includes direct care up to $10 week and State total benefits.
Summary Provides routine services in recreational therapy programs to improve the quality of life for residents at the NH Veterans Home.
Responsibilities
Monitors residents in individual/group recreational activities and facilitates participation.
Plans, develops, implements, and leads daily activity groups, trips, and special events.
Assesses residents’ abilities and interests to determine activity needs.
Completes required and related documentation and care plans.
Escorts residents to and from activity treatment areas.
Transcribes data on resident progress reports and records.
Transfers and supervises residents on planned recreational trips when assigned.
Contributes to team projects and collaborates with other departments to meet residents’ needs.
Assists residents in setting up and eating their meals following established guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
10th grade education.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Recreational work experience with persons with mental, emotional, or physical disabilities.
Experience with gerontology and/or dementia and Alzheimer’s patients/residents.
Certified Activity Professional or eligibility to obtain certification.
Ability to communicate and work effectively and efficiently with all members of a team.
