Overview
The City of Maryland Heights is looking for a full-time Aquatics Specialist. This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations, programming, and safety of the Maryland Heights Community Center Indoor Pool and Aquaport. This position assists in implementing aquatic programs, including swimming lessons and special events, supervises part-time and seasonal aquatic staff, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and provides a high level of customer service to meet the needs of the community. The annualized pay range for this non-exempt position is $56,710 - $72,290. Responsibilities
Assists with the development, planning, and supervision of recreation programs and special events in aquatics for the Maryland Heights Community Center Indoor Pool and Aquaport. Assists with payroll, hiring process, staff discipline/incentive, and evaluation records for aquatic employees. Provides leadership, coaching, and oversight of part-time and seasonal aquatic staff, including pool managers, head guards, lifeguards, slide attendants, and Aquaport front desk and concessions attendants. Along with the Aquatics Supervisor, trains all aquatic staff and maintains regular in-services/orientations. Assists with proper maintenance of the Indoor Pool and Aquaport. Responds to patron inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional and timely manner. Handles grievances and/or discipline cases involving pool patrons and staff. Reports serious cases to the Aquatics Supervisor and Recreation Facilities Superintendent. Plans, schedules, organizes, implements, and supervises other aquatic programs and activities based on the needs of the community. Supports budget tracking, supply ordering, and vendor communication. Assists in preparing, coordinating, and disseminating all recreation publications, including seasonal brochures and flyers for Aquatics. May be required to act in a lifeguard or swim instructor capacity at times as needed. Responds to aquatic facility emergencies and provides first aid, CPR, and rescue care when needed in accordance with training and established procedures. Assists in documenting incidents and implementing follow-up action. Promotes a positive image of the Parks and Recreation Department while ensuring excellent customer service at all times. Provides administrative support for Parks and Recreation staff and leadership. Overall knowledge of the city and what is happening throughout the city All other duties as assigned. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field. One year of related aquatic or recreation experience. Years of related work experience can substitute for the education requirement. Possess a valid StarGuard ELITE Lifeguard Instructor certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire) Possess a valid Certified Pool/Spa Operator certification or Aquatic Facility Operator certification (or obtain within 12 months of hire) Knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines that relate to pool operations and chemistry.
