. **JOB SUMMARY**Under general supervision from the Paha Director and direct supervision from the Assistant Camp Paha Directors, the Camp Paha Behavior specialist is responsible for the day to day behavioral needs of the campers.
Behavior Specialists will maintain good communication with Directors, staff and parents.
Behavior specialists will create and implement various strategies for behavior modification techniques for campers while at camp.The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.**MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES** (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position).**Essential Job Functions:*** Perform job in a professional manner, i.e. dress appropriately, arrive on time, stay until the end of your shift, attend all appropriate staff meetings, and pre camp training/staff orientation to ensure quality standards are upheld.* Be attentive to the physical, social and emotional needs of the campers assigned to your group.* Participate in all camp activities with the campers.* Maintain an enthusiastic attitude and serve as a role model for positive and appropriate behavior through speech and action on a daily basis.* Provide direct and meaningful supervision and feedback for your respective staff.* Plan and lead small and large group activities for campers during scheduled group times, transitions, or other down times.* Comply with required camp ratios.* Ensure the health, well-being and safety of all campers, participants and staff, abide by and enforce City of Lakewood’s policies and procedures including the “No Isolated Moments” policy.* Maintain the cleanliness of all areas and facilities used by campers and staff on a daily basis.* Directly supervise campers on a daily basis.* Adhere to program schedules.* Be knowledgeable of any special camper needs, including health and behavioral.* Communicate with parents regarding camper behaviors, schedule changes and other pertinent information.* Administer medications to campers on schedule.* Coordinate staff to comply with the ratio of at least 1 counselor supervising 4 campers at one time.* Follow all Child Care License standards as set forth by Paha Director and those respective agencies.* Complete written weekly progress notes including camper goals, activities, and behaviors.* Delegate duties associated with the group evenly to group staff.* Other related duties as assigned.**Hours of Work**Weekdays 8:30am-4:30pm**Important Functions*** Supports Campers at all times in program participation.* Provides suggestions for future Paha activities/programs.* Works as a part of team by supporting others and taking initiative.* Performs other duties as assigned.**Organizational Relationships****Supervision Received:*** Receives general supervision from Paha Director and Camp Paha Assistant Directors.**Supervision Given:**
* Program Aids* Counselors in Training* Volunteers**Essential Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)*** Experience caring for and patience to work with people with disabilities.* Experience or background in school, public health, camp nursing, or working with people with disabilities is beneficial.* Must furnish written proof of at least 480 contact hours supervising children (up to age 18). Contact hours can be a summation of full or part time work and must come from a previous supervisor on company letterhead.* Perform job in professional manner (proper dress, prompt, courteous, flexible).* Ability to problem-solve and work with staff members.* Must be able to clear TRAILS Registry prior to the first day of work.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents and caregivers.* Possess ability in leadership and organization.* Ability to respond to questions from groups, managers, participants, customers, and the general public.* Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families and caregivers, both verbally and non-verbally.* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations in a professional manner.* Ability to interpret and understand instructions, both written and oral.**Education*** High school diploma or Equivalent* Some College (College degree preferred)**Required Certifications*** Current CPR and First Aid Certifications* Medication Administration (training provided upon hire)**Preferred Certifications:****Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*** Must be 18 years of age or older.* Ability to interact with participants in an appropriate manner.* Ability to supervise participants and redirect negative behaviors as needed.* Ability to give clear verbal direction to groups of 5 or more.* Ability to motivate and work with individuals of all ability types.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.* Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.* Ability to provide direction and supervision to volunteers.* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.* Ability to be flexible in work schedule.* Background check is required.**Physical and Mental Requirements****Lifting or Carrying**:

* Ability to manipulate program supplies as needed.* Ability to push/pull participants using various assistive devices.**Body Positions/Movements:*** Ability to stand, walk, run, sit, bend, stoop, squat, twist, and reach for extended periods of time.* Must be able to perform and assist with activities of daily living with participants.**Hearing:**
* Must be able to communicate with staff and participants via phone and in person.**Vision:*** Must be able to instruct, observe, and demonstrate all program aspects.* Must be able to recognize and prevent/redirect potentially-risky behaviors.* Must be able to perform basic office functions.**Mathematics:*** Must have basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills for compiling reports.* Must have basic accounting skills to ensure a fiscally sound program.**Remembering:**
* Must remember participants’ names and abilities, follow-up with participants, parents, staff, and recall how to respond to emergency situations.* Must remember policies and procedures and apply them accordingly.* Must meet deadlines.**Language Ability**:
