. **HIRING RATE: $18.50/hour****Paha Activity Specialist**The Activity Specialist is responsible for the daily onsite programming of Paha. Activity Specialist creates lesson plans and work with Paha Leadership Staff to provide meaningful and beneficial activities for campers and participants. Activity areas may include Sports and Games, Nature and Science, Arts and Crafts, Outdoor Play, Sensory Play, Life Skills, and Music and Drama.Starting salary is $18.50/hour, but may be more depending on qualifications and experience.The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.**MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES****Essential Job Functions** (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position):* Perform job in a professional manner, i.e. dress appropriately, arrive on time, stay until the end of your shift, attend all appropriate staff meetings, and staff orientation to ensure quality standards are upheld.* Must furnish written proof of at least 480 contact hours supervising children (up to age 18). Contact hours can be a summation of full or part time work and must come from a previous supervisor on company letterhead.* Maintain an enthusiastic attitude and serve as a role model for positive and appropriate behavior through speech and action on a daily basis.* Support campers, participants and staff at all times in program participation.* Ensure the health, well-being and safety of all campers, participants and staff.* Be familiar with and adhere to Camp Paha policies and procedures.* Assist staff with the physical, social and emotional needs of the campers. This may include transferring, changing, feeding, and behavior management.* Be constantly aware of risk and how to manage those risks; make safety a top priority in all aspects of the camp program.* Plan, implement, and continually evaluate age-appropriate activities for campers and identify potential adaptations for campers to ensure that campers of all ability levels may participate.* Support skill development of campers through planned activities.* Provide help to all of the staff with ideas of activities that they may use with their campers and participants during group room time or group down time.* Manage the care and use of program equipment and supplies.* Prepare activity lesson plans in a timely manner and monitor activity supplies to ensure the materials necessary for the activities planned are in stock or ordered.* Direct staff assisting the setup of your program area every morning.* Implement planned activities and modify them as needed to suit group needs.* Maintain patience with campers when teaching a new activity.* Work together with group staff keeping open communication in order to best support campers and participants be successful during activities.* Report weekly to Paha Admin Staff, evaluating strengths and weaknesses of program area in terms of objectives, interest, attitudes and participation.* Manage your program area’s budget.* Perform other duties as assigned.**Hours of Work**Days, nights, weekends as requested**Organizational Relationships**Receives general supervision from Paha Admin Staff.Provides general supervision to volunteers.**Essential Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)*** Must be at least 18 years old* Must be able to pass CBI/FBI/TRAILS background checks* Must be able to work in a wide variety of settings and locations around the community* Experience caring for and motivating people with disabilities ages 6-25 (preferred)* Experience or background in school, public health, teaching, or camps (preferred)* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents and caregivers.* Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families and caregivers, both verbally and non-verbally.* Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations.* Ability to communicate, interpret and understand instructions, both written and oral.* Ability to interact with participants in an appropriate manner.* Ability to give clear verbal direction to groups of various sizes.* Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.**Education**High school (Diploma or equivalent)Minimum of 1 year of College (preferred)**Required Certifications**Current CPR and First Aid (training provided upon hire)**Physical and Mental Requirements****Lifting or Carrying:**Must be able to safely lift/pull/push (with assistance) weight of up to 50 pounds.Must be able to assist in participant transfers in varying situations.**Pushing and Pulling:**Ability to manipulate program supplies as needed.Ability to push/pull participants using various assistive devices.**Body Positions/Movements:**Ability to stand, walk, run, sit, bend, stoop, squat, twist, and reach for extended periods of time.Must be able to perform and assist with activities of daily living with participants.**Hearing**:
