Purpose The Research Associate reports to Jie Li, Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy, to investigate the rare cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), establish animal models for PMP, and metabolically engineer natural products as potential PMP therapeutics.

Responsibilities

Biological evaluations of natural products related to the rare cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP)

Microbial genome mining, genetic manipulation, and metabolic engineering for natural products discovery as potential PMP therapeutics

Manuscript preparation for scientific publication

Generate data and participate in scientific writing to contribute to grant applications

Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational and training background in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmacy, with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

At least five years’ postdoctoral research experience with the rare cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), including PMP cell culture and functional assays as well as isolating bacteria from PMP tumor tissues.

At least five years’ postdoctoral research experience with microbial genome mining, genetic manipulation, metabolic engineering, and natural products bioassays.

Proficiency in analyzing microbial genomic and metabolomic data.

Demonstrated ability to conduct scientific research and report in the form of original research publications in leading scientific journals.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to Required Qualifications, prior experience in bioinformatics and cheminformatics as well as strong verbal and writing communication skills for working in research teams are preferred qualifications.

Salary Range $68,800+ depending on qualifications
