Summary This position is located within Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Naval Station Great Lakes. The purpose of this position is to repair and maintain golf course equipment and vehicles.

Duties

Maintain a wide variety of golf course equipment and vehicles in proper working order. This includes daily checks and adjustments, on the spot repairs, preventive maintenance, and major overhauls for the following:

Light equipment: push mowers, walking greens mowers, weed eaters, edgers, sod cutter, chain saws, blowers, fertilizer spreaders, top dresser, range ball machines. Tasks include carburetor adjustment, spark plug replacement, starters, points, throttle, brake, transmission clutch, filter, seal, tire, blade, chain repair, electrical troubleshooting, reel adjustment, clippings displacement.

Medium‑light equipment: greens mower, sand pros, cushman turf trucksters, workmaster, golf carts, pesticide sprayer. Performs repairs/replacements of solenoids, tires, steering assemblies, wiring, bearings, drive belts, chains, head gaskets, seals, reels, bedknife differentials, distributors, fuel filters and pumps, tune‑ups, air filter changes, oil/grease lubrication, belts, antifreeze, hydraulic systems, engine overhauls, electric cart repairs, machining, welding of equipment.

Medium equipment: fairway mower, stake dump truck, back hoe and front end loader. Handles all above plus rebuilding hydraulic lifts.

Ensures proper allocation of fuel, correct grades of oil and fuels, and accurate consumption records by operator and machine.

Trains employees on proper use, maintenance, and minor repair of tools, equipment and vehicles.

Maintains necessary stock of tools, parts and supplies; obtains prices and submits lists to Golf Course Superintendent when needed.

Maintains up‑to‑date equipment repair records for all equipment.

Maintains equipment and tool storage facilities in a clean, neat manner for easy access. Performs repairs/renovations of the maintenance building as required.

Assists in maintaining and repairing the irrigation system including replacing seals, valves, sprinkler heads.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must pass all applicable records and background check.

Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

Starting May 7, 2025, non‑affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.

Qualifications Resumes must include information that demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

Must have a complete knowledge of mechanics, be familiar with hydraulics and transmissions, and be able to trouble‑shoot and repair equipment and vehicles.

Must have at least two (2) years documented experience as a mechanic for full performance level.

Must be able to plan work and follow complex repair manuals and diagnose repairs required.

Must be able to operate a wide variety of specialized tools, both light and heavy, necessary for the maintenance and repairs (e.g., drill press, electric/acetylene welders, engine analyzer, valve grinder, voltmeter, multimeter, reel grinder, tire changer, battery charger).

Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.

Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs.
