Job Title Crewperson 6 - Site Maintenance (Equipment Operator)

Position Function The Site Maintenance Crewperson is responsible for a wide variety of duties. Possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated trade. Ability to carry out assignments and perform good quality work with minimum supervision. Demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks.

Essential Performance Responsibilities Perform work in a safe manner and report any hazardous conditions

Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson represents both the Facilities Division and the Wichita Public Schools

Cooperate with other employees and maintain good public relations inside and outside of his/her assignment

Display willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement

Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service

Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment

Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership

Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district

Work cooperatively with others and assist in maintaining open lines of communication

Work directly or indirectly under the Supervisor

Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services

Perform proper maintenance and service equipment

Assume responsibility for all tools, supplies and materials

Attendance required at meetings and in-services

Assist all crews as needed including concrete work, asphalt repair and installation, installing playground equipment, fence installation and repair, earth moving operations and relocating industrial arts equipment.

Operate crane for replacing rope on flagpoles, setting play equipment and assist other work areas as needed

Assist as needed in the heavy equipment, concrete and playground crews

Operation of all equipment and trucks is required

Assist in organizing back lot and shop inventory

Make decisions and offer solutions to the unit Supervisor concerning problems in the field

Delegate work as needed to employees in the absence of the Supervisor

Deliver and set up heavy equipment

Operate crane for replacing rope on flagpoles, setting play equipment, and assisting other work areas when needed

Install and repair asphalt parking lots and earth moving operations

Snow removal operations are mandatory

Operation of all equipment and trucks is required

Maintain current knowledge relating to technical information and policies concerning this Facilities area, and assists the Supervisor(s) in assigned administrative tasks

Maintain records required for efficient unit functioning

Delegate work as needed to employees in the absence of the Supervisor(s)

Communicate effectively with Job Coordinators

Additional Duties Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Equipment Demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed. This position may require the ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use. Use hand tools of the trade and related power equipment. Other tools that may be used may include, but are not limited to: heavy equipment (including backhoe, bobcat, bucket loader, cherry picker, dump trucks, forklift, grader, high loader, paver roller, skid loader, tractor and trencher), broom, cement mixer, chain hoist, concrete float (all sizes), concrete saw, core drill, hand tools, jack hammers (60, 90, 110), pallet jack, picks, power tools, sandblaster, shovel, sledge hammer, surveying equipment, tape measure, trucks, vans, wheel barrows and 1200 pound

Travel Travel between schools and central offices is required.

Physical and Mental Demands Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required

Ability to work indoors in extreme heat or cold and outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow and have the ability to drive in various outdoor weather conditions

Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various responsibilities required for this position

Ability to work overtime on short notice may be required

Work in standard office, shop and school building environments

Ability to work in confined or high spaces; some strenuous physical work

Ability to work productively in stressful situations

Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services

Frequent (3-6 hours): Below the waist reaching, waist to shoulder reaching, standing, walking, rotation of head/neck, flexion (head bend down and head bend back), bending at the waist, twisting at the waist and forceful gripping

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information

Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed

Knowledge of various types of materials and procedures used in the area is essential

Ability to perform all tasks involved in concrete pouring, sandblasting, patching concrete, installing and repairing parking lots, assisting in installation and repair of playground equipment and fencing and various earth moving operations

Knowledge of federal, state, city guidelines, and codes and the ability to observe them at all times

Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook

Interrelations Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors

Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks

Will work with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy

Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues

Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave

Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator

All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile A High School Education or GED equivalent is preferred.

Maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment

A CDL class A driver’s license is required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Once the CDL class A license is obtained, the selected candidate must register with the Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide consent for USD 259 to run a pre-employment full query through the Clearinghouse website. If these steps have not been completed within 90 days of employment, the candidate will be terminated for non-compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.

Experience in concrete, asphalt, playground work, operation of skid steer, loader, grader, dump truck, forklift, back hoe, trencher and sandblasting is required. Light equipment and vehicle repairs are required.
