The Glendale Police Department has an immediate opening for the position of 911 emergency communications police dispatcher. Dispatchers are responsible for emergency and non-emergency communications via phone, radio and various computer systems for all City departments. Dispatchers also function as the information center for general police assistance and assist the records division as needed. Minimum requirements are 18 years of age, minimum 35 wpm typing skills, ability to work shift work (including evenings, weekends and holidays with occasional mandatory overtime), high school diploma or GED. Multitasking and ability to quickly prioritize tasks are a must. Experience in the public safety field preferred but not required.

The Glendale Police Department has a newly remodeled dispatch center featuring state of the art equipment and ergonomically-correct workstations. The Glendale Police Department covers a small but diverse community, with the dispatch center averaging 30 calls per hour. The police department offers a friendly, supportive work environment placing an emphasis on current training techniques. We are a 24/7 enhanced 911 center with a total of 6 dispatchers. Applicants must be able to work together as part of a team as most shifts will be doubled up, but will work alone a minimum of two shifts per week. Shifts are 5, 8-hours shifts per week bid by seniority, with shift change every 4 months. Training program averages 14 weeks, followed by a 1-year probationary period and annual reviews.
