Position Summary

Entry‑level Paralegal positions are available in the County Attorney’s Office, located at 360 Wabasha St. N, St. Paul, MN 55102.

The role supports attorneys across the Criminal Trials Division and the Human Services Legal Division (Child Support, Civil Commitments, Child Protection).

Paralegals perform a variety of duties that apply entry‑level knowledge of rules of court and relevant statutes, and they have an opportunity to develop skills for advancement. Responsibilities

Provide paralegal support for a range of practice areas including Pre‑Trial Justice, Adult Trials, Youth Justice, General Civil, Civil Forfeiture, Child Support Legal, Civil Commitments, Child Protection, Victim, Witness, and Post‑Conviction Justice. Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, or administrative proceedings by drafting witness and exhibit lists, compiling trial notebooks, preparing documents for court presentation, managing electronic evidence, and preparing exhibits for use during trial. Obtain, analyze, and organize information; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain accurate records and files; handle confidential and sensitive information; interview victims and witnesses. Draft and file pleadings and other legal documents such as affidavits, memoranda, motions, notices, writs, warrants, discovery documents, jury instructions, summons, and complaints, and review them for attorney approval. Attend court proceedings with attorneys; take notes of testimony; assist attorneys during procedures; arrange court calendar placement. Participate in meetings with division directors, assistant directors, and attorneys; take meeting notes and provide preparation assistance. Respond to routine requests from internal and external clients; provide effective customer service and maintain cooperative relationships with county departments and law enforcement agencies. Use required software applications and internet resources; coordinate audio/video presentations as needed. Identify basic risk and liability issues; resolve routine issues and refer complex matters to management. Create and maintain a positive, teamwork‑oriented work environment; represent the office professionally. Support Senior Collection Enforcement Agent in reviewing, confirming, and verifying reports through databases, and generate documents requesting information from families of decedents. Assist in building or maintaining track recoveries. Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field. No required experience; however, equivalent education and experience may substitute. No required certifications or licensure. Examination Process

The rating is based solely on responses to the questionnaire; providing inadequate answers (e.g., “see resume”) may negatively affect the score.
