TEMPORARY Park Maintenance Technician – Cheyenne Mountain State Park
Department Information
This is a temporary position (9 months or less) with pay $18.00 per hour. Employment starts January 2026 and will last up to 6 months, not to exceed 9 months. To apply, submit only your application; the posting will remain open until filled.
Job Description Drivers of State-owned vehicles must maintain a safe driving record and valid driver license. Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for workers who:
Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
Duties
Responsible for general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, vault toilets, cabins & yurts, campsites, picnic areas, and trails.
Operate and perform routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment.
Ensure quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness.
Provide information and assistance to visitors.
Assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Must be at least 16 years of age.
If the position requires operation of a motorized vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a current motor vehicle report.
Willing to work outside during inclement weather.
Must be able to lift 75–100 pounds repeatedly during a single workday.
Knowledge of power tools and hand tools preferred.
Knowledge of small engine and other equipment maintenance and repair preferred.
First Aid and CPR certifications may be required.
Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work with little supervision.
Physical Requirements This position requires physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Ability to perceive color differences and to hear verbal and radio communications is required.
Work Context
Outdoors, exposed to weather – working outdoors is essential; must tolerate inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, snow, etc., and hike into remote areas.
Contact with others – most fieldwork is done independently, but public exposure is common in State Parks.
Standing – standing is common in the field.
Coordinate or lead others – must organize seasonal or volunteer crews and supervise their activities.
Exposed to contaminants – may be exposed to weed-killing chemicals and exhaust or diesel fuels during repairs or running heavy equipment.
Walking and running – required when accessing road-less areas, fixing fences, hanging signs, etc.
Handling objects/tools – use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls is frequent.
Minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings – regular occurrence when working outdoors.
Uniforms – the park may provide some items; employees may need to purchase limited items at their own expense.
