Datacenter Operations Technician
This role is provided by Compunnel Inc. Your pay will be based on your experience and skill level.
Base Pay Range $24.00/hr – $26.00/hr
Responsibilities
Provide support for new installation and migration of equipment, including IT hardware, cables, power distribution, and ancillary components.
Conduct necessary maintenance and system upgrades that require changes to infrastructure components.
Diagnose, repair, replace, and escort vendors in support of hardware failures and remediation activities.
Decommission legacy hardware and complete required reconciliation processes.
Maintain and install support infrastructure such as cable trays, PDUs, shelving, etc.
Terminate copper and fiber using the Fiber Quick Connect Termination Procedure.
Document data center and infrastructure processes and procedures, including DCIM installation and upkeep.
Document all new systems, changes or modifications within DCIM, and remove old systems from records.
Label all hardware and cable in the data centers; support hardware (HVAC, conduits, and systems) as needed.
Coordinate and escort visitors and vendors performing computer hardware and facilities maintenance.
Ensure compliance with client safety standards.
Maintain support services in the data centers.
Respond to normal and high‑severity incidents.
Work with facilities to coordinate maintenance on service hardware and keep inspections up to date.
Perform complex troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, solution development, and implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent with entry‑level data center experience.
Ability to collaborate with professionals from varied disciplines and technical skill levels.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Basic knowledge of fiber, copper, power cables, etc.
Basic knowledge of air‑handling hardware, generators, fire suppression hardware.
Basic knowledge of electrical (PDU & UPS), lighting, HVAC, chillers.
Ability to follow written procedures.
Pass a security background check as prescribed by client and NERC standards.
Pass random drug testing as defined by client policy.
Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
Maintain a positive attitude while adapting to rapidly changing demands.
Proficiency with standard office automation software such as MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and Outlook.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information for security compliance.
Have an active mobile phone and be willing to use it for work‑related calls and texts.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Have an operational personal vehicle suitable for travel to multiple client worksites.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in an IT‑related field.
Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and equipment brand certifications (e.g., Dell, HP, IBM).
Basic facilities knowledge: HVAC systems, power distribution units, UPS systems, etc.
Nice to Have Skills
IT certifications.
