Kansas City Public Schools PT Customer Service Rep - Transportation Job Title Code: 02157 Salary Grade: E01/147- $18 - Flat Rate Department: Transportation Reports To: Director of Transportation FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Position Summary The Part-Time Customer Service Representative supports Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) Transportation Services by providing responsive communication and monitoring daily operations. This role serves as a first point of contact for families, staff, and transportation partners, helping ensure safe and reliable student transportation through real-time support, issue tracking, and basic administrative tasks.
What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities) Customer Service & Communication Respond to incoming calls, emails, and portal messages from families, schools, vendors, and internal departments. Log and track inquiries, issues, and service requests, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution. Provide basic technical support for transportation tools (e.g., parent portal, bus tracking apps).
Service Monitoring & Support Monitor active routes to identify delays, disruptions, or missed stops. Communicate with transportation providers to address and resolve service issues in real time. Document incidents and elevate concerns as needed.
Technology Use Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) to manage communications and documentation. Navigate transportation software systems to support routing and tracking functions.
Administrative Support Assist with student routing updates, data entry, and record maintenance. Organize and maintain transportation files and reports. Perform other administrative tasks as assigned.
To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Qualifications) High School Diploma or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in a receptionist, call center, or customer service role. Experience handling multiple phone lines and managing high-volume inquiries. Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
In Order to #LevelUp in This Role, You'll Need: (Preferred Qualifications) Experience in transportation, dispatch, or logistics support. Familiarity with student routing or GPS tracking systems. Ability to remain calm and effective in fast‑paced or emergency situations. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Demands This job requires that the employee be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Terms of Employment Length of work year: 12 months, 25 hours per week; 1-6 pm daily; 260 work days
