Purpose of Position
Sets up and operates conventional, Special purpose, and numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Responsibilities
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Develops layout and plans sequence of operations. Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto workpiece. Hammers, chips, and grinds workpiece to cut, bend, and straighten metal. Preheats workpieces. Positions, aligns, fits, and welds together parts. Designs and constructs templates and fixtures. Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications. Fabricates and assembles sheet metal products. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts. Sets up and operates machine tools associated with fabricating shops such as radial drill press, end mill, and edge planer. Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers. Interact within a cooperative environment through beneficial behavior, commitment to common goals, contribution to problem solving, communication of ideas and suggestions, and encouragement to other employees and departments. Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products. Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks. Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. High school diploma or general education degree with six months related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma or general education degree with two years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. Selection for this position is based on demonstrated ability to fulfill requirements. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office, basic AutoCAD, SolidWorks and CNC programming. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines. Basic knowledge of hand tools for fabrication environment; operational knowledge of drill press, brake, and cut off saws. CNC Water Jet Machine as well as CNC Press Brake Machine. Able to use precision measuring equipment applicable to this job. Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; able to read and interpret documents; able to write routine reports and correspondence; able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Valid Driver's License, where applicable. Physical Demands and Work Environment
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
