Position Summary: The Safety Coordinator reports to the Director of Safety & Training. Responsibilities focus on maintaining the safest possible workplace and OSHA compliance. The Safety Coordinator will be hands‑on and interact with Operations Personnel to implement and manage a proactive, behavior‑based approach to Health and Safety, with a strong emphasis on Personal Responsibility, Incident Prevention, and a Management Systems approach to compliance; perform Health and Safety determinations, compliance audits, and risk assessments to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of Regulatory and Company requirements.
Essential Functions
Conduct audits, hazard analysis of project operations, and assist in updating and maintaining company safety manual.
Provide training for New Hire Orientation, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10, Competent Person and Asbestos.
Hands‑on interaction with field personnel and management team daily.
Collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, standards, policies and/or procedures.
Track employee development and On The Job Training (OJT) to ensure employees are learning the skills to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
Work with personnel to assure safe placement and job assignment.
Foster a team environment when advising on needed corrections.
Cultivate positive and productive working relationships with customer representatives to ensure satisfaction with safe work practices and procedures, and work with crews to correct any issues that arise.
Develop and deliver training to support business needs; maintain all training documentation, including initial and refresher training records, outlines of training, training schedules, etc.
Promote and champion corporate training systems and services with a deep commitment to safety and quality.
Evaluate and maintain inspection and testing reports.
Assist in the process, maintenance and record‑keeping of incidents.
Prepare, schedule, and conduct regular QA/QC crew audits.
Assist with OQ Training/Evaluating when needed.
Maintain and develop gas distribution, pipeline, and underground safety knowledge.
Must be willing to travel throughout the United States.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
5–10 years safety experience and OSHA 500, or other accredited safety certification (e.g., CSP, ASP, OHS, CHST, CSST, CSHO), or 3 years verifiable experience and/or a Bachelor’s degree in a Safety related curriculum.
Strong presentation skills leading regular Safety Meetings and other trainings.
Familiarity with quality assurance audits in the natural gas and public utility industry.
Ability to identify and record proper and improper practices on a natural gas job site per audit metrics.
Provide technical assistance with the investigation of accidents, incidents, injuries, and/or illnesses.
Demonstrated experience coordinating and communicating information across company and department lines.
Experience in Distribution.
Bilingual preferred but not mandatory.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
