Position Summary The Safety Specialist is focused on maintaining the safest possible workplace and ensuring OSHA compliance. The role will be hands‑on and interact with Operations Personnel to implement and manage a proactive, behavior‑based Health & Safety approach, with a strong emphasis on Personal Responsibility, Incident Prevention, and a Management Systems approach to compliance. Responsibilities include performing Health & Safety determinations, compliance audits, and risk assessments to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of regulatory and company requirements.
Essential Functions
Conduct audits and hazard analysis of project operations, and assist in updating and maintaining the company safety manual.
Provide training for New Hire Orientation, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10, Competent Person and Asbestos.
Maintain and promote the safest possible workplace and OSHA compliance.
Interact daily with field personnel and management.
Collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, standards, policies and procedures.
Track employee development and On‑The‑Job Training (OJT) to ensure employees acquire the skills to perform their jobs safely.
Work with personnel to assure safe placement and job assignment.
Foster a team environment when advising on needed corrections.
Develop and deliver training to support business needs, and maintain all training documentation.
Promote and champion corporate training systems with a commitment to safety and quality.
Evaluate and maintain inspection and testing reports.
Assist in the process, maintenance and record‑keeping of incidents.
Prepare, schedule, and conduct regular QA/QC crew audits.
Assist with OQ Training/Evaluation when needed.
Maintain and develop gas distribution, pipeline and underground safety knowledge.
Must be willing to travel throughout the United States.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
5–10 years of safety experience with OSHA 500 or other accredited safety certification (CSP, ASP, OHS, CHST, CSST, CSHO) or 3 years of verifiable experience and/or a Bachelor’s degree in a safety‑related curriculum.
Strong presentation skills for leading regular safety meetings and trainings.
Familiarity with quality assurance audits in the natural gas and public utility industry.
Ability to identify and record proper and improper practices on a natural gas job site per audit metrics.
Provide technical assistance for the investigation of accidents, incidents, injuries and/or illnesses.
Demonstrated experience coordinating and communicating information across company and department lines.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment Employees are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment and vibration. They may encounter extreme conditions at construction sites and work in loud noise environments and outside weather conditions.
