The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Aquatics Supervisor to lead our Aquatics team and oversee daily operations at our thriving community center. This full-time Sunday through Thursday position plays a key leadership role in our mission to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all community members. From program development to staff training to facility oversight, the Aquatics Supervisor is central to shaping outstanding Aquatics experiences at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center.
Key Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Senior Director of Aquatics and Recreation develop, coordinate, and evaluate all aquatics programming including lap/recreational swim, group swim lessons, private/semi private/special needs swim lessons, rentals and special events
Serve as the Summer Swim Club Director open from Memorial Day to Labor Day; responsible for day to day operations, planning social events, entertainment, and other related Summer Swim Club events.
Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise part time lifeguarding staff
Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise part time group swim lesson instructors, and private/semi private/special needs swim instructors
Provide weekly direct programming support including swim instruction, lifeguarding, swim team coaching, and American Red Cross certification classes as determined by the Senior Director of Aquatics and Recreation and the Chief Operating Officer
Track and oversee certification and recertification of lifeguards, group swim lesson instructors, and private/semi-private/special needs swim instructors
Lead monthly in-service trainings and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Monitor staff performance, support professional development, and implement disciplinary actions as needed
Ensure daily operations meet Bridgewater Township, New Jersey Department of Health, and federal safety/sanitary requirements
Assist with daily supervision of pool systems including water chemistry, filtration, and heating
Complete weekly general pool maintenance tasks such as manual vacuuming, skimming, power washing, scrubbing, etc.
Maintain accurate records and reports including scheduling, participation data, certifications, facility checklists, training documentation, and incident documentation
Work with the Head Coach and the Head Age Group coach of the JCC Bridgewater Tide to assist with development of additional swimming program related to Aquatics
Respond to patron inquiries and resolve concerns in a courteous, timely manner
Demonstrate sound judgment, adaptability, creative problem solving, and empathy when responding to evolving situations and community needs
Evaluate challenges, explore alternative solutions, anticipate potential outcomes, and implement strategies that support department goals
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years experience in aquatics program management, pool maintenance, administration experience, and staff supervision
Two (2) years of direct supervisory experience
Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and training)
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational, and problem solving skills
Proficiency in computer systems including recreational software, Excel, WhentoWork, Amilia/Daxko, etc
Required Certifications (Ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LGT)
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO)
Valid driver's license
