The Saint Louis Science Center’s Summer STEM Explorers Camp excels in creating exciting, purposeful and unique educational experiences in which students develop collaborative scientific skills and a passion for life-long learning. The Camp Supervisor directs, supports, coordinates logistics and monitors ALL camp classes in the museum building. This individual will ensure that the staff have the resources and operational know-how needed to lead quality programming. The Camp Supervisor monitors daily activities to ensure all campers experience an educational, fun, and safe environment. This individual will supervise and attend to the needs of campers along with the camp counselors.
Camp Schedule
Schedule: May 11 to July 31, 2026, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Must be available to work all weeks of camp.
Camp is not held the week of June 29 - July 3.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the team of camp counselors.
Act as supervisor for a team of 10 camp counselors.
Work closely with the Camp Manager to ensure that camp procedures and policies are followed and adhered to by camp staff to provide exemplary experience for campers.
Assist in fulfilling daily camp schedules and activities.
Lead staff meetings and training sessions with the support of the Camp Manager and camp staff.
Support and manage the design of camp programs to meet strategic goals to advance the Science Center’s mission.
Direct classroom activities that engage and encourage camper participation.
Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of camps operations and activities.
Serve as a role model, demonstrating a friendly, positive, and professional image to campers, parents, visitors and other staff.
Support the management of parent expectations and any issues that may arise including, but not limited to, camper or camp staff behavior issues, parent complaints, etc.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to directions involving emergencies or other safety-sensitive situations.
May be subject to large crowds and loud noises for prolonged periods of time.
Will need to transport campers’ supplies (up to 40 pounds), to various locations in the Science Center daily.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
HS diploma or equivalent required.
College courses in relevant Science, Informal Education, Museum Studies, or child development preferred.
1-2 years of summer camp counselor supervision or other relevant supervisory experience required.
1-2 years’ experience teaching and working with children ages 5-9 in either a formal or informal setting required.
Cultural institution experience and/or people facing work are highly desirable.
