About the Facility Cherry Hospital is a state‑of‑the‑art psychiatric hospital located in Goldsboro, North Carolina. It serves the 38 easternmost counties of North Carolina and offers a healing environment for those with the greatest need.

Responsibilities

Provide law enforcement services for clients, staff, and visitors of Cherry Hospital, O'Berry Center, and Caswell Center.

Investigate and enforce a variety of criminal cases, including crimes against persons and property violations.

Respond to calls for assistance and enforce state laws and regulations within jurisdictional boundaries.

Conduct interviews, obtain investigative reports, and testify in court when required.

Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including night, non‑working hours, and in possible staff shortages.

Maintain security of state property, equipment, and facilitate mutual aid agreements with surrounding facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or GED.

Must complete NC Probationary Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment.

Must be at least 20 years of age and possess a valid NC driver’s license.

Preferred: Knowledge of investigative techniques for misdemeanors and less serious felonies, search warrant procedures, crime scene management, and fingerprint lifting tools.

Experience: Ability to use discretion during investigations, arrests, warrant services, and community interaction.

Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal.

Understanding of safety protocols to maintain a safe environment.

Physical Requirements Walking, standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work rotating 12‑hour shifts and be available to stay over during adverse weather events.

Veteran and National Guard Preference

Attach DD‑214 Member‑4 for veteran preference.

Attach NGB 23A (RPAS) for National Guard preference.

Attach DD‑256 or NGB 22 for former member with honorable discharge and six years of service.
