The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of North Dakota is seeking an Assistant Professor of Mathematics with a doctoral degree in topology or a closely related area to begin August 16, 2026. In addition to the description below, the appointment will begin as a 9-month or comparable contract with a distribution of duties that typically includes teaching, research, and service. The University of North Dakota is located in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate distribution of 50% teaching; 40% research; and 10% service effort. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics Advise and mentor undergraduate students Advise and mentor graduate students; direct graduate theses and independent study projects Establish a solid and productive research program, such as through publication in peer-reviewed outlets and/or seeking extramural funding to support individual and collaborative projects. Serve as a catalyst for attracting and supporting graduate students in the MS in Mathematics Program. Excellent written and oral communication skills The ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Mathematics & Statistics Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery Earned PhD in Mathematics (with an emphasis in topology or a closely related area) by August 15, 2026. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels Evidence of research potential, such as a record of peer-reviewed publications in quality journals Record of involvement in seeking extramural funding Experience working on multi-disciplinary research teams Experience mentoring students and supervising student research projects/independent studies To Apply
