Geotechnical Drilling Operato r
to join our team in
Beaumont, TX.
Responsible for operating direct-push and rotary drill rigs to collect soil and groundwater samples, operating Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) equipment, and overseeing the planning and preparation of drill crews performing subsurface soil explorations for commercial, industrial, and transportation projects assigned to the Geotechnical Engineer Activity. Additional duties include maintenance and repair of transport vehicles, drill rigs, tooling, managing inventory of tooling and equipment, and ensuring safety and quality compliance. Responsibilities
Provide training, supervision, and instructional guidance to drilling assistants as per the firm’s Quality Manual and Safety Guidelines for each project. Operate geotechnical exploration drill rigs and support vehicles, performing preventive equipment maintenance. Legibly collect and log field data to specifications and job instructions. Read and interpret topographic and geologic maps. Recognize unusual ground conditions and immediately alert the team of unanticipated conditions. Attend to all details of assignments and complete work safely, properly, accurately, and thoroughly. Demonstrate safe, daily production and a high level of effort toward achieving goals. Follow applicable ASTM standards or jurisdictional requirements. Follow field procedures and verify accuracy and completeness of field results regularly. Submit completed reports via paper or electronic submission. Inform manager of workload, overtime requirements, and project status. Keep up to date on best drilling practices and procedures. Treat customers courteously and respond to their needs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of one year related drilling experience. Possess a current valid state (Louisiana or Texas) driver’s license and Class B CDL driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment, meeting company auto insurability requirements. Ability to drive short and long distances. 40‑hour Hazmat Training (preferred). Knowledge of Gulf Coast geology, surficial soils, principles of geotechnical investigations, and MUTCD. Experience with various drilling methods and field tests/sampling such as Standard Penetration Tests, Shelby Tube Sampling, Texas Cone Penetration Tests, Field Vane, and Cone Penetration Tests. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent organizational, judgment, and communication skills. Strong arithmetic and problem‑solving abilities. Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk. Frequently required to lift up to 70 pounds and use hands and reach. Required vision abilities include close, far, color, peripheral, focus, and depth vision. Work environment may include exposure to heavy equipment, hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, grease, oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration.
