Mobile Energy located in Mobile, AL is recruiting for an Operations and Maintenance Technician‑Control Room Operator (CRO) for its GE 1x1 combined cycle power plant consisting of one GE 7FA.03 combustion turbine generator set and one GE industrial steam turbine generator set totaling 223 MW of generation.

This position requires the candidate to qualify as a plant operator and perform routine preventive maintenance and equipment repairs. Excellent troubleshooting, diagnosis, decision making, and leadership skills are essential.

Proficiency with Distributive Control System (DCS) computers, Microsoft Office, and Red‑Tag PRO for lockout‑tagout procedures is required. The incumbent will assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and suggesting plant improvements that enhance reliability and safety. Knowledge of chemical analysis and control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems, as well as chemistry log maintenance, is mandatory. The role involves ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and plant procedures, maintaining plant security, operating heavy equipment such as manlifts and forklifts, and handling bulk chemicals.

Job Responsibilities

Operate and maintain a combined cycle generating facility and all associated auxiliary and support equipment with minimal guidance.

Make operating decisions based on plant procedures, safety and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and data.

Operate the plant via the DCS and, when necessary, locally via PLC panel interfaces.

Set daily priorities and communicate plant issues to the O&M Manager or Facility Manager.

Read meters, gauges, and automatic devices to record data such as temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels.

Perform water chemistry analysis on HRSG, auxiliary boiler, and cooling tower systems; adjust chemistry as needed.

Operate the demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures.

Demonstrate proficiency in the computerized maintenance management system; record equipment discrepancies and complete work orders accurately.

Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valves, gaskets, and other components, and lubricating parts as required.

Open and close valves, circuit breakers, and other isolation equipment as necessary.

Assist in capital projects and major programs assigned by the O&M Manager.

Set up and operate tools and instruments for repair work.

Diagnose mechanical malfunctions or failures and use test equipment to calibrate plant instrumentation.

Troubleshoot and inspect programmable logic controllers and DCS components.

Assist mechanical and instrumentation technicians in repairing plant equipment.

Identify and resolve CEMS problems and assist in calibrations and gas bottle changes.

Maintain housekeeping, painting, and overall appearance of the facility.

Report all accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly, completing required paperwork within 24 hours.

Work with the team to foster a safety‑first culture and uphold HSE responsibilities.

Make decisions on non‑routine or escalated technical issues independently.

Prioritize and execute responsibilities effectively with limited supervision.

Train others on complex technical skills as needed.

Required Skills / Knowledge

Knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment.

Understanding of all facets of power plant operations.

Ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.

Experience with gas turbine power plant maintenance.

Experience

Senior‑level (10+ years) directly related experience, including health and safety regulations and handling hazardous energy, chemicals, and waste.

Experience performing complex technical service/support duties requiring specialized knowledge.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma, or equivalent technical/vocational school or military service education.

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
