Join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Hamilton County. Under direction, the Senior Surveying Technician acts as Party Chief; conducts topographical, boundary, location and construction surveys using various survey instruments; records readings, compiles notes, makes sketches, and enters data into computer. Qualifications
An example of acceptable qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course studies in Surveying or Civil Engineering or related field, and three (3) years’ work experience in land surveying under the supervision of a Professional Surveyor; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licensure or Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid state of residency driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the County’s vehicle insurance policy. Equipment Operated
The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Vehicles, Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, prism poles, GPS receiver, UAVs, tripods, laser measuring systems, levels, measuring rods, wireless devices, surveying accessories and standard office equipment. Note: All surveying duties noted are performed under the supervision of an Ohio Professional Surveyor. Acts as party chief in absence of professional surveyor Supervises assigned crew and directs the various surveying functions Assigns tasks, plans and schedules survey activities to achieve effective utilization of available manpower Assists in the completion of timecards to be approved by the Supervisor Conducts topographical, boundary, location and construction surveys using various survey instruments (e.g., total stations, data collectors, prism poles, GPS, leveling rods, UAVs, etc.) Records readings from instruments and gauges Calculate distances, angles, elevation, grades, etc. using algebra, statistics, geometry and trigonometry Maintains notes of measurements, monuments and calculations to prepare final survey plat Drives stakes or rods into ground with sledge hammer to facilitate surveying Sets final lines and monuments in field Ensures equipment is clean and operating properly Drives truck transporting crew and equipment Ensures work area is safe Meets with contractors to show field survey points Gathers information about area being surveyed from plats, plans, deeds, topographical maps, instructions Prepares and reviews survey plans Prepares reports based on field survey data and existing records Assists in organization, data entry and file management of surveys, maps, plats, benchmarks and scanned images Works with other departments to utilize survey files Answers questions from property owners or officials about work being performed Assists surveyors, attorneys and the general public in locating old surveys and records Drafts plans and deeds related to surveying Attends meetings and serves on committees, as directed Attends training and seminars, as directed Meets all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance On-call availability may be required outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays Minimum Acceptable Characteristics
Knowledge of: County and departmental goals and objectives; County and departmental policies and procedures English grammar and spelling; surveying techniques Drafting techniques Topography, GIS concepts Supervisory principles and practices Office practices and procedures Skill in: Typing, data entry, word processing, and computer operation Computer programs Adding machine or calculator operation Use of modern office equipment Motor vehicle operation UAV operation, surveying instruments and materials utilization Ability to: Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form Deal with a variety of variables in unfamiliar contexts Read, copy, and record figures accurately Perform basic arithmetic and apply algebra and geometry concepts Apply concepts of calculus and trigonometry Prepare accurate documentation Copy records precisely without error Communicate effectively Develop and maintain effective working relationships Travel to and gain access to work sites Seniority level
