Purpose and Scope To support Saint John Bosco Catholic School, this position, under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor and Principal, assumes the responsibility to assist the Facilities Supervisor with coordination of the maintenance work for the school; performs skilled and semiskilled building maintenance and repairs requiring a general working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work; responsible for general upkeep and cleaning of the school and the grounds; performs related work as required.
Essential Job Functions
Ensures that all buildings and grounds are maintained in a manner that promotes a safe, healthy, and welcoming learning environment.
Monitors and coordinates with Cleaning Service, AC Service and Landscape service to ensure all classrooms and school grounds are cleaned properly and well maintained.
Oversees daily facility operations, including campus opening and/or closing procedures, setup and breakdown for school-day activities (such as lunch), and timely response to janitorial and maintenance requests from faculty and staff.
Ensures the daily maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of classrooms, restrooms, floors, windows, furniture, and campus grounds.
Works collaboratively with the Facilities Supervisor to support janitorial operations and provide coverage when necessary.
Performs routine and minor maintenance and repairs to school and parish facilities as needed, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and preventive maintenance tasks.
Completes minor construction projects and maintains preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, systems, and equipment.
Paints and repairs walls; performs minor repairs to furniture, doors, windows, floors, gates, roofs, and ceilings as required.
Prepares classrooms, school grounds, and multipurpose spaces for special events, liturgies, and school activities.
Monitors the condition of facilities and equipment, maintaining accurate service records, warranties, and maintenance documentation.
Researches, inventories, orders, organizes, and stores maintenance, janitorial, and repair supplies, tools, parts, and equipment; verifies invoices and submits them in a timely manner to the Facilities Supervisor.
Coordinates the pickup and delivery of supplies and parts from vendors as needed.
Collaborates with the Facilities Supervisor to assess and advise on annual budget needs related to maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements.
Maintains equipment in an organized, safe, and working condition, ensuring accurate inventory and accountability.
Acts under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor and advises the Principal on bids and recommendations for special projects as assigned.
Maintains and manages a list of approved vendors for contracted services, including landscaping, HVAC, and pest control, ensuring work is completed according to specifications.
Supports the coordination and implementation of the annual summer maintenance plan.
Additional Job Functions
Performs any other job-related duties as directed by the Facilities Supervisor, Principal or Pastor.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
General working knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices related to building and grounds maintenance and repair, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and painting trades, or a willingness to be trained in these areas.
General knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations relevant to school and parish facilities.
Understanding of safe work practices and procedures to ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Ability to help train, and support additional maintenance and janitorial staff effectively.
Ability to assist the Facilities Supervisor in advising on budgets related to facility maintenance and repairs.
Ability to provide reliable personal transportation for job-related responsibilities.
Availability to respond to facility-related emergencies as needed, including outside of regular school hours.
General computer skills (email, office productivity software e.g. Word, Excel etc.)
Demonstrated ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and establish effective working relationships with school and parish employees, volunteers, students, and families.
Ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to support school operations and events.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of trade school or equivalent work experience.
Three years work experience in a similar position.
Active practicing Roman Catholic in communion with the Church.
Valid Arizona driver’s license.
Fingerprint Clearance.
